Welcome to NEXT Distro!
You can reference this website if you have questions about how our program works. Please do not share it with anyone who is not already enrolled in our program. This information was also included in your first package.
NEXT Distro is an online and mail-based harm reduction program. We mail free resources to people who use drugs. We also work to support the friends and family of people who use drugs by providing free naloxone and overdose reversal education.
You are enrolled in our full-service harm reduction by mail program,
you can order a package once every thirty days at nextdistro.org/order
NEXT is based in New York City and partners with harm reduction programs all over the country to send out supplies. If you live in one of our states with an affiliate partner, you will receive supplies from a harm reduction program in your state. Otherwise, your supplies will be mailed from our office in New York City.
Our packages are designed to provide enough supplies for one person for one month. If you have friends or family members who want to enroll in the program, please encourage them to apply here.
On this page, you’ll find some information about how to order as well as answers to frequently asked questions about our program and some educational materials about safe injection, wound care, and other harm reduction strategies.
You can always reach out to us with any questions
email nextdistro@pm.me or by call / text 646-389-0752.
Please give us three business days to reply — we get a lot of messages!
We’re glad to have you in our program.

ORDERING + SHIPPING FAQ
-
You can always find your order form at nextdistro.org/order — please only use the order form for your state. We recommend bookmarking it on your phone and/or computer — you will not be able to find it by searching on our website. If you cannot find the order form, get in touch with us at nextdistro@pm.me or 646-389-0752. Please do not reapply.
The order form’s URL is not listed publicly — please do not share it with anyone else. If you know someone who is interested in our program, you can direct them to nextdistro.org/getnext to apply.
-
Your handle is how we match your order to the address we have on file. We use handles in order to protect your privacy. It is very important to type your handle accurately when placing your order each 30 days. If you can’t remember your handle, contact us at nextdistro@pm.me or 646-389-0752 — please do not reapply.
-
Contact us at nextdistro@pm.me or by phone at 646-389-0752 with your new contact information. It is very important to contact us with updates to your mailing address as soon as you have them — this helps us avoid delays in shipping your package. Be sure to type your new street number on your order form.
-
You can only order once every 30 days. For example, if you order on January 13th, you can place your next order on or after February 13th. We suggest setting an alarm on your phone or making a note on your calendar to remind you of your order date. Early orders usually cannot be processed.
-
We shut down shipping for five days each month, from the third Wednesday to the following Sunday. This gives us time to prep supplies for the month and catch up on our order queues. If your order date falls during one of these closures, please place your order after the closure.
The closure dates are sometimes different around holidays. You can always find them listed at nextdistro.org/order
-
The number of syringes you can order depends on the funding available in your state. The limit will be outlined on the order form. We serve hundreds of people a month — please request only what you need to last you for 4-5 weeks. You might be used to reusing your syringes — our goal is to provide you with enough syringes that you can use a new one for every shot, including extras for if you miss.
On the order form we will ask you to specify how many bags of each kind of syringe you need. Please monitor your email and phone after placing an order, in case we have a question about your request. Timely responses help avoid a delay in your order.
If you have friends or family members who need supplies, please encourage them to apply at nextdistro.org/getnext
-
The number of pipes you can order each month depends on the funding available in your state. The limit for your state will be listed on your order form. We are actively working to increase our funding for purchasing pipes. Wish.com has affordable options if you need more pipes than we can provide.
-
We sometimes experience shortages or out of stock items. We will always prioritize sending you syringes, smoking supplies, safer sex supplies, and naloxone.
-
We never automatically send a package — you must place an order if you would like one sent.
-
Please report using your naloxone at nextdistro.org/reverse. Naloxone usage reported here gets prioritized by our shipping team. We will send you replacement naloxone as soon as possible. Don’t wait until you run out to replace your naloxone!
-
We have never and will never charge anyone for the supplies we send or the shipping required to send them. Please don’t ask us if you can pay to have a package sent faster — we do not accept payment of any kind for our services from our participants. Requests are always shipped in the order they are received.
We try to ship orders within three business days. After they ship, they will take an additional 1-5 days to reach you in the mail. Sometimes we have large influxes of orders, which may delay shipping time. When this happens, we work through the queue as quickly as possible.
-
We ship all packages via USPS. We use this carrier because they have the strongest privacy protections. You should expect to receive your package in the same place you receive all of your USPS mail. We cannot accommodate specific shipping instructions.
Our packages do not require a signature and we are unable to add a signature requirement to your shipment. If you have concerns about the security of your package, please let us know. We can usually ship a package General Delivery to your local post office for you to pick up.
Once the Postal Service has received the package from our office, we cannot make changes to the address or delivery instructions.
-
There is space on the order form for you to request tracking information. You can request tracking via email from our third party carrier, via text, or on Signal.
Tracking through our third party carrier is by far the fastest way to receive your tracking information. We always recommend using this option. If you select this option, please be sure that we have your email address on file.
We cannot send replacement packages if your package is stolen from your porch after it is delivered. If this is a concern for you, please monitor your tracking carefully.
MORE ABOUT NEXT
-
NEXT partners with existing harm reduction programs, using our website, technology, and experience to support mail-based programs all across the country.
NEXT’s main office is located in New York City. If you live in New York state, but do not live near an in-person harm reduction program, we will pack and ship supplies to you from this office. We also ship one-time packages and naloxone from this location to people who live in states where we do not have an Affiliate Partner.
If you live outside of New York but in a state where we have an affiliate partner, our partners in your state will pack and ship supplies to you.
Not everyone who applies is eligible to receive a package from us. Eligibility varies by state and is determined by location, in-person services near you, available supplies, funding, and staffing.
Different affiliates provide different things. What your local affiliate sends depends on what kinds of funding and regulations are in place in your state. All affiliate partners of NEXT sign an agreement that ensures the confidentiality of individuals participating in the mailing program. Your privacy is always of utmost importance to us. We will never collaborate with law enforcement or share your information with them.

NEXT has three unique programs:
Full-Service Distro: Our #1 priority is to offer supplies, support, and education to people who use criminalized and stigmatized drugs. This means we mail everything you would find if you went to an in-person syringe access program. This program is currently available in New York, California, Georgia, Missouri, Nevada, Wisconsin, and Michigan. It operates in a limited capacity in other states. NEXT acknowledges the many barriers people may face to accessing in-person services by prioritizing individuals with historically marginalized identities.
One-Time Packages: We offer one-time packages to people who live in states where we do not have a local partner. People living in unfunded states can apply to receive a one-time package with syringes, smoking supplies, naloxone, and educational materials at nextdistro.org/getnext. We know that there is a major need for our services in many of our unfunded states, where there are often legal constraints, insufficient funding, and a lack of in-person resources. We are always working to expand our programs.
Naloxone by Mail: NEXT also has a separate naloxone-only mailing program which is designed to support the wider community of friends, family, and network of people who use drugs. Our naloxone eligibility requirements vary by state, depending on funding. We will always prioritize sending naloxone to people who use drugs and who are most likely to witness an overdose, including family, friends, roommates, and loved ones of people who are using drugs.
If you know someone who would like to carry naloxone, perhaps because they are close to you, they can request it at nextdistro.org/naloxone. If you use your naloxone to respond to an overdose and need to request more before your reorder date, you can do so at nextdistro.org/reverse.

NEXT was inspired by the work of a woman named Tracey Helton. Tracey has been mailing naloxone all over the country for over a decade. Our goal was to formalize and expand upon the amazing mutual aid model she developed.
When NEXT was founded in 2017, we were the only model of our kind in the United States. There are now several independent mail-based programs, including full service programs in Alaska, Maine, New Mexico, and Montana.
-
NEXT is a small team made up of paid staff, consultants, volunteers, and affiliate partners. When you reach out to us over the phone or by email you are talking to paid NEXT staff who work remotely in different parts of the country. The majority of our team are people with lived experience of marginalization and drug use. You can learn more about our team at nextdistro.org/team.

We monitor our phone and email lines Monday through Friday from 8:30AM-4PM ET. We will always try to respond to you within three business days. Please communicate with us through only one method at a time. It can delay your order if we are hearing from you in several different places. If you are writing to us from a new phone number or email address, be sure to also send us your full name and DOB, so that we can verify your identity. This helps us assist you faster.
We are not an emergency service. If you are responding to an overdose or another medical emergency, please contact local EMS, who will be better equipped to assist you.
We reply to all messages in the order they are received — and we receive a large volume of messages! Please be patient — we will always respond.
-
Funding for NEXT’s service varies from state to state. In some states, like New York or California, the state health department supports our work. In others, it is entirely funded by foundation grants and generous donations.
-
In most states, NEXT does not have enough funding to support community distribution. We do have a small secondary distribution program, which supports drug user-led supply distribution. If you are interested in learning more about this program, write to secondary@nexthr.org for more information.
If you have any other questions about NEXT, get in touch! We are here to help and are always happy to answer any questions you might have. We have answers to more FAQs at nextdistro.org/faq
