NEXT Distro California
SANE + NEXT

Who we are and what we do

NEXT is an online and mail-based harm reduction program. We believe everyone should have access to the tools they need to keep themselves safe and well. If you are a person who uses drugs and you do not live near a pre-existing harm reduction program or cannot purchase supplies online, you can fill out the enrollment form below and we’ll work to get you supplies. If you live within the catchment area of pre-existing syringe access program, we’ll let you know about those in-person opportunities.

Our work in California is made possible by an innovative partnership between NEXT and SANE (Safer Alternatives thru Networking & Education). Packages requested in California will be coming from Sacramento.

If you have family or friends who you think should have naloxone on hand, please refer them to nextdistro.org/naloxone. This site consolidates information about in-person naloxone access. There is also a mail-based option for those who cannot access naloxone any other way.

And yes, we gladly take donations. If you choose to make a tax-deductible donation you can do so to NEXT and/or SANE.

What we provide

NEXT mails all the supplies you would be able to access at an in-person syringe exchange program. This includes sterile syringes, naloxone, sharps containers, alcohol pads, cottons, fentanyl test strips, condoms, and more. Once you’ve completed the (1) application and (2) contact form, we’ll request your mailing information if we are able to accept you into the program and send you a list of the supplies we have available.

We love connecting participants to local in-person services such as harm reduction organizations, MAT programs, and other treatment services upon request.

Please read through this information carefully.

1. Please check this map before enrolling to find local syringe access programs. NEXT does not accept applications from areas where there are pre-existing support options. If you are in a location without a SSP, you can apply for our mail-based program.

2. Our enrollment application asks sensitive health questions. Do not put your name or any identifying information on this application. You will be asked to choose a “handle” / username that we will use to match you with your application. This is to ensure your name not paired with the information you provide.

3. After you complete the enrollment application by clicking “Submit” you will be asked to submit your handle and contact information to a separate url. This will go into a separate, secure database. If you do not submit your contact information, we will not know how to reach you.

We highly recommend downloading the free, encrypted messaging app Signal on your phone to communicate with us and others. An excellent, free, and encrypted email option is Protonmail. With these tools, we can work together to ensure your information and needs are safe and private. Read more about Signal and communication privacy here.
